What happens in Vegas...

The State of Nevada has announced that it will require the use of ID scanning technology at all vendor locations selling tobacco or vape products starting in January 2023. The law, AB 360, states that retailers must use a digital scanner, or an automated software-based system, to verify the age of each customer. The ID scanning software created by IDScan.net, which runs on Panasonic TOUGHBOOK N1 computers, uses more than 75 AI-based checks of the back of each identity document and is compliant with state law. The law applies to liquor stores, vape shops, grocery stores, bars and casinos, as well as eCommerce sales.

Digital Identity for the people....soon-ish

The use of digital identity frameworks continues to rise in Asia, where governments are ramping up registration to improve digital ecosystems and address administrative backlogs. The issue promises to remain a hot topic in Asia through 2023 as more people demand efficient digital services. However, infrastructure gaps and privacy issues are increasingly trotted out as reasons why things may not change quickly enough.

How to watch the watchers

The ID verification solutions market is a vast and varied one, offering an abundance of options. This can make it appear that there is market saturation and that any solution can check any required document in all possible scenarios. Whether you have a KYC procedure, are checking in for a flight, or are trying to access a bank service or medical insurance, there are several options on the market. But how do you choose the right one for your needs? And what is trustworthiness when it comes to ID verification?

Last Word

Nothing like the start of a new year. Fueled with aspirations of new challenges to overcome and new paths to create, it's a time of excitement and optimism.

It's also SKO time. Or Sales Kick-Off for those who aren't familiar with the acronym. And it's about what you would imagine it is. Across the country, nah, the world sales team are gathering together with motivational quotes, new compensation plans, and rearing to go and push product..err I mean help you solve all of your identity problems. So if you've noticed a new vigor in the email and LinkedIn messages you are receiving, you now know why.

But more importantly, this is when organizations set the tone for how they want to approach the year. This year will be different; there is no denying the fact the market has shifted. Budgets are going to be tighter; customers are going to be more demanding. This is the year when technology has to live up to what sales and marketing say it does, which makes things easier and allows the customer to do more with less. So if you are a customer, now is the time to have genuine and meaningful conversations with your vendors, specifically their sales teams. Tell them your problems, ask them how they will help you solve them, and hold them to the fire on it.

For those you of you on the other side. Maybe you're in product and don't get a chance to attend or be around SKOs that much. Now is your time to align with your salesforce. Help and motivate them to tell the story of your product to your customers. They are your eyes and ears in the customer organization, and never will you have a better opportunity to influence them than now. Your customers are counting on you this year more so than others.
