Hey Jedi! Welcome to the 15th edition of the Identity Jedi Newsletter!
Ok let's address the elephant in the room, Jedi. You're reading this on a Thursday. GASP!!! I know, I know, the newsletter didn't make it out on Wednesday. I could make up this elaborate and engaging story of why it didn't go out.....OR I could just simply say, my bad. The truth is, my week got the best of me, and I didn't get around to getting this out. What can I say, although I am a Jedi, I'm still human.
But we are back on it, and I will say that next week's newsletter will be the last of the year, as I'll take a break on ALL THE THINGS for the holiday season to spend some much-needed time with my family and away from screens and things identity. BUUUT I do have a holiday-themed newsletter planned for all of you to send us out with a bang!

What's happening this week
Oh the times, they are a changing
The US is no stranger to data breaches, but things are about to change. A recent survey from Thales revealed that 48% of US consumers have been victims of a data breach - significantly higher than the global average (33%). With this in mind, it’s no surprise that legislators in the US are starting to make data protection a major topic at upcoming ballots. The demand for greater control over data privacy and security is rising, and organizations must take proactive steps to ensure that user’s personal information is secured. Identity has been a legislation-driven industry since it's inception, could this drive the next evolution of CIAM?
Strata, Strata, Bobobata
Strata Identity recently announced its membership in the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), an organization dedicated to ensuring a secure cloud computing environment. As co-creators of ClearTrust, the original web single sign-on platform, and Symplified, the first Identity as a Service (IDaaS) offering, Strata Identity is well-positioned to make significant contributions to CSA’s efforts. By joining CSA and contributing through its expertise in identity management and orchestration solutions, Strata Identity is furthering its commitment to providing safe, secure cloud computing environments for customers. Strata has always been interesting to me; honestly, they were the canary in the coal mine that let me know this wave of product consolidation was coming. Identity data was, and still is, way to siloed.

Product Spotlight
Ok so yes, yet another authorization product that introduces yet another policy language. Why? Because AWS says they can do it better than everyone else..... Yeah, I'll just leave that there. But hey, we are riding this pendulum swing back to centralized authorization so let's see how this plays out.

Ok, so the news this week was a little rough. Not really much to talk about as far as identity goes. I guess that can be expected it's the end of the year we are facing an economic recession, and everyone's focus is elsewhere. The AWS entry into centralized authorization is noteworthy. You can't truly implement Zero Trust architectures without dynamic authorization and you'll need to do that at scale. Well, it feels like AWS invented that phrase "at scale", so if anyone could do it, it would be them. However, I question their motives. Time will tell.
I talked about it a little in my last newsletter, but I'm really big on the holiday season this year. It's been a rough year for me personally, but I know others have had much worse. I'm thankful for the things and people I do have in my life, and that includes all 100+ of you. Truly. I wish you all the warmest of holiday season. I wish for peace in your home, happiness in your hearts, and an abundance of joy. WE ARE ALL ONE PEOPLE. Remember that. It gets hard sometimes because we don't all agree on things, we don't all talk the same, and we don't all look the same, but it doesn't change that fact.
Be Kind to each other, Be Good to each other, Love each other.
I"ll see you next week for the Holiday Special!
